Hi

My name is Shaun Lang and I am an Edmonton filmmaker currently prepping my first feature film:

ANYTHING, BUT NOTHING ELSE

The story centers on twenty-something Becky Forrester who is tired of living in the rut of working for her overbearing mother’s clothing store and just wanting one day of R&R; decides one bright and sunny July morning to skip work and take the day off.

She convinces 4 friends: Jillian, Jared, David, and estranged childhood companion Tyler, to join her and explore the city where they’ve lived their entire lives, but never really got to know.

Along the way, there is laughter, excitement, discovery, conflict and ultimately resolutions as the 5 friends discover more about themselves, each other and where the next years of their lives will ultimately take them….

I was inspired to take on this project when I realized the immense lack of movies that are in fact set in Canada even although many are shot here, Edmonton included.

The film will be shot on a micro-budget ($2500CDN) from an 85-page screenplay over approximately 12 shooting days beginning on July 28, 2012.

The film will primarily be shot on weekend. This is an UNPAID gig but we will provide lunch for all those participating on each full shooting day.

Auditions will take place at the Avenue Theatre located on 9030 118 Ave on Sunday July 22 from 1-4:00pm.

I realize this may be short notice so all those who can’t make it, but are still interested, may feel free to contact me and arrange a meeting thereafter.

Thank You

Age 53

Becky’s overbearing workaholic mother, Sheryl runs her store; Neval; with an iron fist. She is disappointed that her daughter’s lack of ambition and direction and firmly believes that some structure will set her daughter straight. So when Becky skips out on work claiming to be sick, Sheryl is on the hunt….

Tyler Hoffman (Becky’s Childhood friend)
Male
Age 25

Once Becky’s constant childhood companion, the two have since drifted apart as Tyler has found a successful career as a (fill in the blank). He’ll never let himself admit it, but he see’s Becky as a lost opportunity that he’ll never get back. Little does he realize that Becky feels the same way about him……

Jared Paxton (Jillian’s Boyfriend)
Male
Age 24

Jillian’s’ boyfriend of three years, Jared doesn’t know Becky as well as the others but is content to ditch his job of guarding the local mall in order to tag along. A little rough around the edges, Jared nonetheless proves a loyal friend and even helps Becky learn what she thought was impossible: to drive a car without causing chaos!

David Lewis (Fifth Wheel)
Male
Age 23

An avid geek of-all-things pop culture, David still lives with his parents and like Becky, lacks direction in his life. He has spent his whole life following others and once, maybe just once, he’d like to take the lead….

Phyllis Piper (Becky’s Co-Worker)
Female
Age 31

A cashier at Sheryl’s store who sympathizes with Becky’s situation and helps cover for her throughout the day.

Mrs. Rodriguez (Becky’s Landlady)*

Quite possibly the biggest sad-sack on the planet, Becky’s landlady Mrs. Rodriguez has been pushed around her whole life and as such has no problem yielding to Sheryl Forrester when she comes storming into the building in search of her daughter…

Mr. Fairweather (Jillian’s Father)*
Male
Age 51

As Chief Engineer of the Edmonton Queen, Mr. Fairweather naturally runs across his daughter Jillian and her friends during the riverboats afternoon cruise. However, he’s sympathetic to Becky’s reasoning and simply advises them to “not make a habit of it.”

Frank Powell (Unemployment Agent)*
Male
Age 45

As hard boiled as they come, Frank Powell has spent the better part of his career dealing with every slacker, moocher, skuzz-butt, and low-life that has ever found themselves without work and he is none-too-happy to see old hopeless-case Max Bauer march through his door again……

Mrs. Yearwood (Irate Customer)*
Female
Age 59

A spoiled, selfish woman used to getting her way no matter how much it inconveniences others, Mrs. Yearwood doesn’t take kindly to Becky and promptly chews her out to Sheryl. Nice lady….really……

*These characters will be needed for only 1 scene, and therefore, only 1 day of shooting.
